Letter from the Managers of the Salt Listed Funds

Dear Investor,

We are excited to invite you to invest alongside the team at Salt Funds Management Limited (“Salt”) in the Carbon Fund, which is offered here on this site and also trades on the NZX Main Board (NZX ticker CO2). Your interests will be strongly aligned with ours.

At Salt, we employ highly experienced, respected investment professionals who are experts in our fields and are passionate about what we do. For us, investing is not merely a job, it is who we are.

We are also passionate about environmental, social and ethical issues. Salt is a signatory to the United Nations (UN) supported Principles for Responsible Investing (PRI) and we believe strongly in the merits of long-term sustainable investment policies.

The issue of climate change is at the forefront of our thinking.

New Zealand, along with almost every country in the world, has signed on to the Paris Agreement that seeks to keep worldwide temperatures from rising more than 2℃ by 2100 and pursue efforts to hold the increase to 1.5℃.

Greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) are a key contributor to climate change, and carbon dioxide equivalent (carbon) the key GHG measure. Putting a price on carbon sends a signal to producers and consumers to encourage a change in behaviour with respect to GHG emissions. A price on carbon helps shift the economic burden of emissions from the Government and society, back to the those responsible for it, and who are able to reduce it. This is why Emissions Trading Schemes (ETS) where GHG emitters buy the right to emit (often referred to as carbon credits) from those who absorb GHG (such as forestry), have been adopted by many of these countries as one of the primary tools to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Carbon Fund aims to provide investors with a total return exposure to movements in the price of carbon credits. The Fund can buy carbon credits in emissions trading schemes in New Zealand and offshore.

The Carbon Fund offers an investor access to investments that might otherwise be difficult to achieve on your own which are professionally managed by the experts at Salt. It offers transparency and an ability to trade on-market. Units in the Fund can be bought and sold on the NZX Main Board like shares in a company.

The Salt Listed Funds (which are unit trusts, and PIEs for tax purposes) are offered by Salt Investment Funds Limited, a 100% owned subsidiary of Salt Funds Management Limited.

If you wish to invest in the Fund, please ensure you read the PDS and other information provided so that you fully understand the Fund’s investment objective and the associated risks. This information is available under ‘Important Documents’ on this website.

Yours sincerely,
